Myself and several other adults in the Cavan area have been playing Warhammer 40,000 for many years and when 9th edition came out they (GW) provided a framework for linking all your games together to give more of a narrative feel to the proceedings. The main problem I had with it was the somewhat tedious bookkeeping stage during and between games. Similar to the origianl version of Necromunda. Quite a few games were played but as not many people in our group got onboard with the crusade, it sort of fizzled out. Then a few weeks ago I discovered Goonhammer Adminstratum, which is a great campaign management tool. So after some cajoling we have a number of the gaming group involved. So far we have six players and eight rosters in the campaign. They are;
The Paroxysm of Pain; my Drukhari raiding force.
The Krablokistan 47th ; Astra Militarum, also captained by myself.
Gitkrumpas Killa Mob; AuldhannaRua's Blood Axe mob.
Void Spectres; AuldhannaRua's Primaris Chapter.
Necron Overlords; Hano's awakening xenos force.
The Myriad; Clobtastic's Alpha Legion (or are they?).
The Putrid Choir: Pact Only's Death Guard army.
Sgt Shamrock; Blood Angel's overseen by Sergeant Shamrock.
The Setting
We decided to set our campaign in the Kebban sub sector. An area of space infested with Orks during the psychic awakening. Gitkrumpa's Killa Mob is a prominent Waarrgh! that is active in the sector and has been noticed by Imperial forces. Of which two chapters of Astartes, Blood Angels and Void Spectres have been dispatched to the lynchpin system of Mobocracy. The Krablokistan 47th Astra Militarum army are deployed on the planet Bad End as a defence force due to it's strategic value. Also in the area are two chaos forces one is believed to be known as Alpha Legion and the other is Death Guard. There is thought to be a Necron Tomb world in the vicinity due to several attacks by an as yet unknown dynasty. As the Void Spectres have been deployed to the area, there is a very real possibility that Adraxys Molech, Drukhari Archon may raid the sector as he has a irrational dislike of the chapter and has taken many marines back to the Commoragh for entertainment. There is a very real possibility of the conflicts escalating as unknown to any of the combatants the Assembly of D'keddes - a genestealer cult force has a secret base on Bad End's largest moon; Atticus.
So there are several other planets in the Mobocracy system capable of sustaining life, Fracas, Retribution, Mundanity IV and Glory. Each has strategic value.
State of Play
So far there has been six engagements of note on the sector. Void Spectres garrisoning the Imperial backwater Cenaculum Ascenderum Ludum were once more attacked by the Paroxysm of Pain led by Adraxys Molech, Archon of the Kabal of the Black Heart. The raid was to gain a foothold on the impossibly pompous people Cenaculum Ascenderum Ludum, whilst at the same time torment the Void spectres once more. The raid was a success and by defeating Lieutenant Sanjo in one on one combat a portion of his soul was stolen and stored in Adraxys soul trap.
Imperial Date : 0297023.M403 and Gitkrumpa's Killas attack Bad End with a small raiding force with a mind to sabotage the planet's defenses. The Krablokistan 47th are up to the task of protecting their territory and the Orks are sent on their way.
Shortly after this attack the same force of Orks stumble upon the Myriad's secret base while looking for supplies on an unnamed asteroid. The Orks are victorious and leave the asteroid a smoking ruin. The Myriad also leave after detonating the base.
Blood Angels arrive on Bad End and due to corrupted intelligence believe the Astra Militarum of the 47th are hostile, so they attack. The astartes are repulsed and leave the planet in the hands of the victors. The disinformation that led to the attack leads Sergeant Shamrock to think someone is trying to weaken Imperial forces in the sector.
The Battle of Carsid river. On Cenaculum Ascenderum Ludum in the sparsely populated Thurrock region Void Spectres auguries signify xenos energy signatures that are subsequently investigated. The Astartes are attacked by Necrons and are outmanoevered and narrowly defeated. The Necrons subsequently disappear.
A Krablokistan recon force are attacked by the Putrid Choir. In their eagerness to engage Lord Gluttox of Virulence teleports behind their lines rendering Leman Russ 'Lucille' inoperable before being brought down by Commander Rorshact. The bloody engagement ended in victory for the Death Guard, but with massed casualties on both sides the Nurgle worshippers withdraw.
That was all approximately 3 months ago, since then 10th edition has been released Crusade rules were streamlined possibly and the group dug trenches played a few games of the new version and we waited... to start up a new campaign, which we just did. The campaign page is here; The Second Great Cavan Crusade. The forces so far are similar to the previous one with a couple of additions, Orks from Da Skurvy Dags led by WarlikeRogue are imminent, plus two possible T'au encroachments and even World Eaters.
Recently a conflict have been fought one between The Harvest of Misery (my newly refurbished Druchari force) and The Sangine Host led by Sergeant Shamrock. Victory was the space elves.
A second battle was fought by the Void Spectres chapter against the Omega Force which turned out was merely a training exercise with live ammunition that got a bit out of hand. Victory was claimed by the Astartes but several dissenting voices in the vicinity claim it was merely a photo op with added propaganda.
